Decorative photoIt's easy to manage your Selwyn Libraries member account through our website, catalogue or mobile app. Simply click on 'My Account' in the top right corner of the website or in the app main menu, and log in with your library card number and password/PIN.

Most users have a four digit PIN (often the last four digits of their library card number), however you can choose to use a password instead. If you can't remember your PIN, you can reset it here.

Once logged in, you can check your loan status and history, renew an item, place a hold, and check any outstanding charges. You can also change your PIN number and manage your preferences, including changing your preferred pickup library.

An Alternative (Alt) ID is an alternative to using your barcode number and can be used like a user name. To add one to your account please contact us or speak to one of our team in your local library. You can still use your barcode number after adding an Alt ID.

Borrowing items

You can borrow up to 30 items on your library membership card. You can check out library items by using the self service kiosks in our libraries, or you can ask one of our team to issue the books for you.

  1. Scan your library card barcode under the scanner at the self checkout kiosk
  2. Place your books on the scanner bed (you don't have to scan them individually)
  3. Check that all titles have been scanned (they will be highlighted in green, with a tick) and tap 'Finished'
  4. Choose how you would like your receipt. All done!

Most items are issued for four weeks with the option to renew for a further issue period so long as no one else has placed a hold on the item.

The due date for each item can be found on the issue slip printout from the self checkout kiosks, or under 'My Account' when you log in online.

If we have your email address, you will receive an email reminder three days before items are due back. You can also request text message alerts.

Renewing items

You can renew items by logging into 'My account', or at the self checkout kiosks located at your local library branch. Alternatively, one of our friendly team can renew items for you at your local library.

  1. Log in to 'My Account' from the website, catalogue or mobile app
  2. Go to the 'Checkouts' tab
  3. Select the items you wish to renew and click 'Renew'

Note: You will be unable to renew items that you have already renewed once, or that have been requested by another borrower.

Decorative photoHolds

You can also place holds on items in our catalogue. Holds will be transferred to the library of your choice for free and we will send you an email when they are ready to collect.

  1. Find the item in our catalogue
  2. Click on the 'Place Hold' button
  3. You will be prompted to log in to your account by entering your library card number and password/PIN
  4. Another pop-up box will appear; check that the pickup library is correct, then click the 'Place Hold(s)' button
  5. You will be advised if your action has been successful - click OK
  6. You can monitor and manage your holds under the 'Holds' tab of your account.

Note: You can suspend holds if you want to stay in the queue but don't want the book straight away. You can also change your pick up location or cancel the hold at any time through your account or via the Selwyn Libraries app.
