View of the tamariki space on the ground floor of Te Ara Ātea. Shows book shelves and bright-coloured soft furniture.

Wāhi Tamariki is a vibrant, dynamic space designed especially for families to enjoy together.

Little explorers will love the interactive native bird block game, huge peg board and the beautiful sensory alcove depicting Selwyn's diverse landscape.

You'll also find an extensive range of books, tech kits, family board games and jigsaw puzzles to borrow, and plenty of space to play and learn.

Our team deliver weekly storytimes, sensory babytimes and rhymetimes in this space (during term time). Visit our What's On page for more.

Wāhi Tamariki is located on the ground floor, with views into the sensory garden outside.

Small boy in front of a display case full of Lego creations.Tamariki Share 'n Show Case

This special display case celebrates our community's tamariki. It is a place where they can share things that matter to them, whether through creative expressions of their ideas and views or exhibits of treasured items or collections.

The case is located in the wall at the eastern end of Wāhi Tamariki, and changes every 2-3 months.

Our current case curator is 5-year-old Eli, who has been playing with LEGO and DUPLO for has long as he can remember and is very excited to share some of his collection with us. He loves the LEGO fire sets, and his favourite is the fire plane, which has water shooters and water bombs.

If you know a young person who has a collection they'd like to share, please email us with the details, or pop in to Te Ara Ātea for a chat with the team.
